It’s very important to keep your gums in tip-top shape, and there are many things you can do to care for them each day. To help you keep your oral tissues healthy and strong, our Witty Family and Cosmetic Dentistry team recommends that you do the following things on a regular basis:

-Brush: Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brushing will help remove the plaque that harms and irritates your gums. So, make sure to brush for at least two minutes each time.

-Floss: Floss every crevice of your smile at least once a day. Flossing will also remove the plaque from your teeth and protect your gums. If you have a hard time flossing, try using waxed dental floss. The waxy coating will help you slip the strand between the teeth easier.

-Rinse: Rinse your mouth once a day with a beneficial mouthwash. This will help kill the bacteria in your mouth that tend to harm the oral tissues.

-Eat right: If you have a balanced diet, your gums will have a better chance at survival. If your teeth remain healthy, so do your gums. So, make sure to avoid sugary and acidic foods and drinks as much as possible.

-Visit the dentist: Make sure to visit your dentist every six months for a dental checkup and cleaning. The treatment involved will eliminate the tartar that is infecting your gums and threatening to create gum disease.
